About

ConFluence’s mission is to build creative, inclusive, and liberating spaces for BIPOC nerds where everyone can feel connected, inspired, and seen. Through both free and ticketed events, ConFluence offers diverse communities opportunities to share interests, foster relationships, exhibit and sell work, learn skills, and play.

Our largest event is a 2-day convention in Northeast Minneapolis, Minnesota celebrating art, sci-fi, futurisms, and fantasy centered on content by and for Black people, Indigenous people, and people of color. The ConFluence convention features cosplay, creative workshops, panels, an art and vendor marketplace, gaming, special industry guests, youth activities, a dance party, and an art exhibition. The ConFluence convention is made possible by the support of over a hundred volunteers, including the ConFluence Planning Team which is made up of local artists, cosplayers, gamers, and organizers.

Our inaugural convention event in 2023 saw over 500 attendees, with the majority identifying from BIPOC communities. ConFluence platforms the contributions of BIPOC creatives, while also making visible the BIPOC nerdy community. The content and topics explored in our events broaden our collective understanding of what is possible through representation, collaboration, imagination, play, and world building.

Safety + Accessibility

We are deeply committed to fostering a safe and inclusive environment for all attendees. We work with Sequeerity to provide safety support for the ConFluence spaces, and all volunteers will be maintaining a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of harassment, discrimination, or harmful behavior––which will be swiftly addressed. Our programming and panel discussions are designed to celebrate diversity and amplify BIPOC voices within the sci-fi/fantasy community.

The Northrup King Building has one passenger elevator and an ADA compliant ramp, as well as ample free parking around the building. We encourage attendees to reach out (hello@confluencemn.com) if they have any specific accessibility requirements, and we will do our best to ensure all needs are met. By working together as a community, we can create an inclusive and welcoming space that is memorable and enjoyable for all attendees at ConFluence.

Covid-19 Policy: Testing and Masking are important forms of care. Masks are encouraged at ConFluence, but not required. We strongly recommend that folks have a negative Covid-19 test within 48 hours of attending ConFluence. Tests can be order for free in Minneapolis/St. Paul by visiting @maskbloc_msp on Instagram or emailing MaskBlocMSP@gmail.com.
